An introduction to Indian cuisine

India is known for its exotic and tasty food, and Indian cuisine is on the favorites list of many food connoisseurs. India with its rich and varied culture has had a strong influence on India's cuisine. Though Indian food in the west is associated with the tasty Butter Chicken, there is much more to it!

Like with anything Indian, every region in India has its own culinary style and its own delicacies. Use of spice is extensive in Indian cuisine, and is used across across different Indian culinary styles. Interestingly, the tomato, chilli, and potato, which are staple components of today's Indian cuisine, have entered India from America through Europe. Indian food can range from the simple, staple, easy to cook types to elaborate culinary complexities that require skill, perseverance and creativity. Culinary styles can vary greatly too, and this can be observed greatly in North Indian and South Indian cuisine.

Due to religious and cultural reasons, many Indians are vegetarians and this has resulted in an amazing array of vegetarian delicacies, unheard of anywhere in the world. Indian food, along with its culinary delights also have medicinal values.
